The Most Secure Residential Project in Israel
(Translation from front-page article in Israel’s #1 newspaper, Yediot Aharonot)
May 2009 — “A doorman is no longer enough: FST21’s SafeRise® intelligent building access system to recognize residents’ faces and voices in Tel Aviv’s exclusive Ne’eman Towers.”
“Ne’eman Towers to be protected like a secure installation: ex defense minister, generals, judges and ambassadors
among those living in exclusive North Tel Aviv complex.”
An access/security system that would make the Pentagon proud is now being installed in North Tel Aviv’s
Ne’eman Towers project. The SafeRise system, developed the company led by former head of Israeli Military
Intelligence, General Aharon Ze’evi Farkash (FST21), will biometrically identify residents on the basis of their facial
characteristics, voice print and behavioral pattern. The system will intelligently prevent access of unauthorized people to
the prestigious complex.
There are 200 apartments in the Ne’eman Towers project, with another 100 units under construction. The desire for
added protection of the complex stems from the high-profile residents: former defense minister Yitzhak Mordechai,
retired generals, ambassadors, consular officials and judges. Another well-known resident is artist Yaakov Agam, who
painted the colorful building façades.
FST21 received funding from Eitan Wertheimer [founding family of the Israeli machine tooling company Iscar
Metalworking Companies that was sold to Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway at a value of $5 billion] who stated that:
“our goal is to secure these towers using non-intrusive next-generation biometrics, whereby the resident’s voice print
and facial characteristics become the key to opening the doors. The system enhances the performance of the security
guards, who can’t be everywhere in the building at once.”
General Shlomo Inbar, who previously served as head of the elite Israel Defense Forces Intelligence Corps (8200 Unit),
lives in the towers and is coordinating the project. Residents will be enrolled into the system quickly and easily simply by
having their pictures taken and voice print recorded. Entrance to the building is granted following camera identification.
Accessories such as glasses or a hat do not interfere with the identification process.
SafeRise is an intelligent system that (in the future) will recognize the behavior pattern of the residents. The system also
includes parking lot management capabilities, whereby the gate is only opened after a registered license plate has been
recognized using OCR. Guest management capabilities are inbuilt so that regular guests are automatically recognized and
granted access (for example, a housekeeper coming each Thursday can be granted permission to access the building only
on Thursdays at a specific time).
The fusion of face, voice and OCR technologies provides a complete state-of-the-art security access solution. Moreover,
“the system has auto learning capabilities,” said General Farkash.
The project developer is A.B. Ne’eman, in conjunction with Azorim Development, with Israel’s leading real estate
management group Ariel Properties providing the property management services. The cost of the system: $100,000.
